Interning at CECT has been a great learning experience for me, from an academic, professional and cultural standpoint. Maria and Tony’s teaching was very informative and it was fantastic to be exposed to new sustainability concepts that I haven’t been taught at university. I’ve learnt a lot about inclusive business, CSR and social entrepreneurship and how these contribute to elevated sustainability in an Indonesian context, which is truly unique.

Additionally, access to Maria’s professional network has been invaluable. We’ve been able to quiz some of Jakarta’s leading sustainability professionals and renowned Indonesian conservationists on some of the most pressing and relevant sustainability issues in Indonesia, as well as make valuable contacts for our own professional networks.

My four weeks of internship at CECT have been a hugely beneficial experience for me – both on a professional and personal level. Being my first time in Indonesia, I was introduced not only to a significantly different culture than of that in Australia, but also to the differences that come with working in an Indonesian organisation. Ibu Maria provided us with the first-hand experience of many current projects and issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility. Furthermore, due to the extensive network she has built, we were able to conduct interviews with a number of business people specializing in sustainability, from some of Indonesia’s biggest companies. The research I conducted at CECT, coupled with the practical experience and training provided by Ibu Maria, has given me a great appreciation of the important of sustainability within every part of a company’s value chain. The friendly team at CECT reflected a closely knit family and always made sure to make me feel welcomed and comfortable during my time at the office. Building relationships with a variety of different people, learning from Ibu Maria’s vast knowledge of CSR, and working directly in an Indonesian business have all stirred a desire in me to want to return to Indonesia in the near future.
