Introduction
Life cycle assessment is a cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-cradle analysis technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s (or service’s) life, which is from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, and use. The results of which are then used to help decision-makers select products or processes that result in the least impact to the environment by considering an entire product system and avoiding sub-optimization that could occur if only a single process were used. In relation to PROPER, the PROPER Secretariat of the Directorate General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, The Ministry of Environment and Forestry added the LCA assessment as a new criteria in the PROPER assessment. The LCA assessment in PROPER aims to identify, calculate the sustainable use of natural resources, its discharge to the environment, and evaluate and implement possible environmental improvements.
