Introduction

There have been many incidents reported by the mass media related to public dissatisfaction with the company. For example: companies exploit natural resources on a large scale without regard to the interests of the community, causing pollution and environmental destruction. Sometimes the presence of a company makes the community’s opportunities to meet their daily needs and economy, so that the community becomes poorer. Up to the mildest complaints about the lack of company contribution to society. The impact can vary, starting with the emergence of jealousy, apathy, disturbance to conflict between the community and the company.

In law no.18 regarding Limited Liability Company article 74 regarding Social and Environmental Responsibility, the details of which are regulated in Government Regulation No.47 of 2012, companies are required to carry out Social and Environmental Responsibility. In its implementation, the company runs a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program with a predetermined budget.

In order for the CSR program to have a significant impact on society, the environment, and not cause jealousy and conflict between stakeholders or companies, it must be based on adequate and accountable Social Mapping. Social Mapping will recognize stakeholders (individuals, groups, organizations), forums and mechanisms for discussion of public interests, potential areas, vulnerable communities to social problems, etc. This social mapping is able to provide a more transparent, specific, measurable and able to explore the needs of the Company’s strategic plans and CSR programs.

The social problems and conflicts above can be prevented and reduced if the company conducts CSR programs which are based on a commitment to grow together with the community. Besides that, it continues to encourage community involvement and initiative in developing, implementing and evaluating the company’s CSR programs, so that the company’s CSR programs are able to make the community independent.
